Even if we don’t always like to admit it we all know that eating or not eating certain foods can have a big impact on our weight. Eating an apple as a snack provides nutrients and fiber, but eating a candy bar adds lots of additives, empty calories and fat. That’s pretty basic, but researchers are finding that certain spices and drinks like green tea may be able to help us with our weight as well.
A recent study suggests that turmeric, a common spice used in Indian food, may hinder the growth of fat. The compound thought responsible for this is a polyphenol called curcumin.
Interestingly enough the ingredients in green tea that are thought to be responsible for helping us lose weight are also polyphenol. But because more than one cup a day was used in studies many people are turning to green tea pills to get a higher level of the good stuff in green tea to help them achieve better results.
Of course eating certain spices and drinking green tea alone won’t make you instantly drop pounds, but every little bit helps. Sometimes we just need a little extra help.
