Electric underfloor heating is a form of radiant heating in which electric coils installed under a surface are activated, which slowly warms the surface above. The surface then transfers, or radiates, this heat upward. The radiated heat warms anyone close by, warms the air close to the floor, and warms objects close by. The direct warmth to people keeps them warm and comfortable. The warmed air also keeps people comfortable. The objects close by, such as furniture and walls, absorb heat and then radiate the heat off slowly through the day or night. This in turn also keeps people comfortable. Electric underfloor heating is an extremely efficient way to heat a house, condo, apartment, flat, or even a sidewalk or garage floor. They typically come in mats that can be unrolled, and wired to electrical connections. This is done by a professional to ensure it is safely installed and properly functioning.
Solar electric panels can be used to supply energy to run the electric radiant heating. There is also water underfloor heating, also known as hot water underfloor heating.
