You must avoid eating food directly from its container. This goes double for foods that you frequently use to binge on. Never eat ice-cream or potato chips form their container. You have to use a plate so you can portion your food and eat smaller quantities. It is impossible to control the size of your portions if you gobble all the food directly from the container.
Many of us are thought when we are young to eat everything from our plates. If you start eating directly from the KFC bucket or ice-cream bucket you will be compelled to eat everything you have in it. It is hardwired since childhood when your parents made you eat everything from your plate.
Also there is another psychological factor that makes you eat the whole container of food. If you feel you are doing something naughty you want to clean out your tracks. You know you shouldn’t eat form the food container and you don’t want others to see how much you ate. So instead of leaving the food container half full you empty it all out.
