Everyone knows that bracelet are pieces of jewelry worn on the wrist. But what most people don’t know it that bracelets may just be the oldest form of jewelry on the planet.
We can go back literally thousands of years to the time before man worked with metal and still find evidence of bracelets in almost every culture. The earliest bracelets were made from shells or animal hide and were probably held together by primitive thread. Later, bracelets were made from plants as well as animal by-products.
It seems that even in ancient times, societies valued adornments. They were probably used not only for pleasure, but to signify societal rank or even religious stature. Today, of course, bracelets are worn for several reasons but mostly they remain fashion items of pleasure. They simply have a longer history than other pieces of jewelry.
