A growing trend for cost effective wooden exterior shutters has been the use of bamboo. Plantation shutters made from bamboo are lightweight and easily adhere to the window frame they are covering. These shutters do not pull away from the window as most shutters do but rather have a lever for sliding the louvers open and closed. Bamboo shutters are easy to clean and when closed reflect the heat from the sun. In addition, most of the shutters are designed so that they can be easily removed and hosed off outside so that there is no need for oils or other special cleaning agents as with other wooden shutters. Many people think that wooden shutters need more maintenance than other types of shutters, but this is generally not true.
