While there are many options decorating the concrete surfaces around a home, some people may decide to go for the cheaper option of a colored concrete paint floated over the top of the gray concrete, but do remember that this may be a false economy. The thin film, if chipped will reveal the normal-colored concrete below.
One other major advantage of coloring the concrete using the acid-stain method is that the metallic salts, once bound to the concrete, create a glossy and hard surface. This surface is less porous, meaning less work and less chance of spillages being absorbed in the home, drive or garage floors. Also, a high gloss floor is often sought after in the modern home.
Remember that this may be one part of your self-build where you should pay qualified professionals in order to get it right first time. If you have a small area to do, go ahead and try. If not, remember that, unlike the ketchup in the carpet, this stuff is here to stay.
