Personal trainers at gyms, especially large corporate chains, tend to be more restricted than those at independent studios. Large gyms typically have a process by which new clients are brought into the gym. They also tend to focus more on membership, and less on personal training. Therefor, the personal trainers are frequently taught to sell hard, instead of focusing on helping people sign up for training who really want it. There are good trainers at gyms, but the odds are relatively low. It is a great idea to interview a trainer before purchasing session with them. You should know what their qualifications are, how long they’ve been training, and what successes they have had with clients in the past. These all should allow you to find a good trainer even at a gym.
